Panache is a word of French origin that carries the connotation of flamboyant manner and reckless courage. The literal translation is a plume, such as is worn on a hat or a helmet! In cycling a rider with panache is said to be one who attacks, displaying courage and flair. But the surprise factor counts and a rider who wins too often can lose this label.
