In his first year as a professional, 1965, Eddy Merckx was asked the question: "What are your principal ambitions as a racing cyclist?" The answer was immediate: "To win the Tour de France and set a new Hour record". He went on to do both!
In 1972, Merckx set a new hour record at 49.431 km in Mexico City where he proclaimed it to have been "the hardest ride I have ever done". The poster celebrates his achievement and the beautiful custom Colnago track bike he accomplished the hour record on.
